        Have you ever seen snow almost year round? Imagine lakes frozen almost a foot solid playing ice hockey and ice skating everyday. This is what one will find in the state of Minnesota. In reading this paper one will learn. Minnesota's various land regions and some amazing facts.

     Minnesota is a fairly large state with an average population. Minnesota is located in the midwestern region of the United States. The bordering states of Minnesota are North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Ontario. Minnesota covers 84,393 square miles in ranking it is twelfth in size among the states. With the twenty first largest population among the states, Minnesota is home to 5,303,925 residents. Minnesota's capital is St. Paul which is located in the southeast region of Minnesota. A total of 285,068 residents live in the capital. Two other major cities are Bloomington and Minneapolis. The population for Minneapolis is 382,578, residents, and Bloomington has 82,893 people living in the city.

Climate 

    An old joke says “Minnesota has four seasons….almost: winter, winter, still winter, and road construction. The record low is negative sixty and the average low is 13o F which is not surprising when minnesota is one of the coldest states. The record high is 114o F the average high is 73o F.

Land Forms

Minnesota is known for its lakes not it’s mountain (and yes I mean only one). Eagle Mountain is the highest elevation in Minnesota. It stands at 2,301 ft. Eagle Mountain is at the top of sawtooth valley. The trail stretches  3½ miles. The trail is an uneven and rocky hike. But it is still a wonderful wilderness experience. Just make sure to watch for bugs.

This is the river you’ve been waiting for. The Mississippi river flows through the mid eastern part of minnesota. it is 2,340 miles and the drainage basin is the drainage basin is 1,512. It completely runs all over the U.S.. The Mississippi river is a great trade route that has been used for centuries. The Minnesota River runs over the middle of the U.S.. The river is 323 miles long. The minnesota river is an important trade route with Canada. It is located in the south part of minnesota.

There are five Great Lakes and Minnesota touches one of them and the biggest one to be exact. Lake Superior is one of the five Great Lakes. Being the largest of the five it is located in the superior uplands, it is  an important part of U.S history because.

Rainy lake is Minnesota’s and the U.S.’s best trade route with Canada. Rainy Lake is three to eight  miles wide. It is on the top of the of the state on the border of Canada. Rainy lake provides a great way to swim in two states. Rainy lake is great in the winter is great for ice skating and hockey.

Land Regions

     Minnesota has a various  of wonderful land regions. There are four different land regions. These regions include The Superior Upland, The Driftless Area, Young Drift Plains

The Superior Upland covers most of the northern parts of minnesota. Within the Superior Upland region you can mine valuable ores such as nickel, iron, and copper. can see Lake Superior and Eagle Mountain are to special located in the Superior Upland .  

The Young Drift Plains are the largest region.  The Drift Plains cover most of the state. In Minnesota, the plains spread over 140,000 square miles. The Mississippi river runs through the region in the midwest part of the state.

The Driftless Area is a small strip of land in the southwestern part of the state. Some of the land there has not been changed for over 500,000,000 years. Most of the lakes in this region have glaciers. Some of the glaciers are around yearly.

The Dissected Till plains covers all of the southwest part of the state. Till is soil created by glaciers.   This till makes this region the best for farming in Minnesota. The entire region is cut up by rivers.

Conclusion

Minnesota has a various amount of special features. Minnesota has 22,000 lakes. it has the bigger river in the Country the Mississippi River. And a fairly large sized waterfall called Minnehaha Falls. It stands at fifty nineft tall.

In conclusion Minnesota is very interesting and fun. Just remember to pack a jacket and snow shoes. Visit the minnehaha falls, the Mississippi river Rainy lake, Lake Superior, and Eagle Mountain too.
